Elevation. Walhalla sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge, and the freezing line often lands here when Clemson and Anderson get rain. Ice loads the big flat limbs of oaks and maples until they split. Taking the dead and weak wood out in the fall is the best protection, and it is cheaper than the emergency.
Can you open up a view on a wooded lot without clearing it all?
Yes. Selective clearing on the mountain side of Walhalla is common: we take the trees that block the view, thin the rest so what stays is healthy, and leave the slope anchored. Tell us where you sit on the porch and we will work from there.
